Detained by Israel/Spanish Flotilla Activists Arrive Home

Twenty-one activists, detained by Israel after blocking aid ships headed to Gaza, arrived in Madrid yesterday.

The flotilla, with 42 ships and 450 activists, was organized to help with the huge humanitarian crisis that continues in Gaza. After the blockade, most of the activists were sent to Israel, from Wednesday to Friday of last week. Even after the release of the 21 Spaniards, the majority of those on the ships continue to be held in Israel.

Many family members had gathered at Madrid airport to welcome their loved ones. Spanish journalist Nestor Prieto claimed that Israeli forces had pointed laser weapons at the activists, while the Israeli Foreign Ministry strongly denied this, adding that those still in Israel will be subject to formal deportation procedures.

Ben-Gvir, the Israeli Minister of National Security, praised the work of the Ketziot prison staff, labeling the activists as supporters of terrorism. Turkey, Greece, Colombia and Pakistan have sent protest notes to their citizens, part of the Flotilla. Meanwhile, President Trump is pressuring Israel to stop the attacks, while the latter and Hamas have partially agreed to a ceasefire./ CNA
