A ship carrying Chinese citizens capsizes in northwest Serbia

A boat carrying several people capsized in the early hours of October 6 near Baçka Palanka, in northwestern Serbia.

According to unofficial information, there were 10 Chinese citizens and one Serbian citizen on board, reports Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty's Balkan Service.

Rescue teams continue the search for several missing people, while emergency medical services, police and firefighters are at the scene.

Specialized water rescue units from Serbia and Croatia have also been sent to assist.

The Serbian Ministry of Internal Affairs has not yet given any official comment on this event.

Since 2017, Serbia and China have had a visa-free regime, which allows citizens of both countries to stay or transit in each other's territories for up to 30 days after entry./ REL
