Kosovo Government: Attacks on our police officers are encouraged by Vu?i?

The acting government of Kosovo considers that Serbian President Aleksandar Vu?i?, by declaring that Milan Radoi? is not a criminal, is encouraging attacks on Kosovo police officers.

"Vu?i?'s statement shows that he controls the justice system and that attacks on Kosovo police officers do not represent crimes for Serbia and are therefore encouraged by the head of state there himself," executive spokesman Arlind Manjhuka told Radio Free Europe.

Earlier this week, Vu?i? stated that Radoi?i? – who claimed responsibility for the attack on the Kosovo Police in Banjska in 2023 – and against whom an Interpol red notice has been issued, is not being prosecuted for any crime.

"You haven't said why Milan Radoi? is on red notice. It's not because of crime, but because of Kosovo," the Serbian leader said.

Although he claimed responsibility for the September 24 attack in Banjska, where a Kosovo police officer was killed, Radoi?i? is at large in Serbia, with a registered address in Belgrade. Serbia has not filed any indictments against him.

However, an international arrest warrant has been issued for him by Interpol, at the request of Kosovo, through the United Nations Mission in Kosovo (UNMIK).

Manzhuka said that the acting Government of Kosovo requests the international community to condemn "this further degradation in the behavior of the Serbian state."

"Such statements prove that Serbia has not changed its mind towards the Republic of Kosovo and that this mindset poses a threat to peace in the region and beyond ," he said.

The spokesperson added that it has been clear to Kosovo that the sabotage and fighting of the rule of law in the north, inhabited by a Serb majority, is "organized and directed by Serbia."

"The fact that this group [that carried out the attack in Banjska Zve?an] was organized, trained, prepared and ultimately infiltrated from Serbia into Kosovo, but was also armed with official weapons of the Serbian state, proven and documented in the evidence found on the ground, clearly shows that Serbia was behind and ahead," he said.

Kosovo considers the attack in Banjska to be terrorist and blames Serbia for it. But Belgrade denies any involvement.

The Kosovo Special Prosecution Office has filed an indictment for the attack in Banjska, and among the 45 people charged is Radoi?i?, who is described as the "leader of the terrorist group."

In this case, earlier this year, the Basic Court in Pristina sentenced three people: two of them to life imprisonment and one to 30 years in prison.

The other defendants are at large and Kosovo has issued arrest warrants for them through Interpol. Kosovo has repeatedly demanded that Serbia hand over Radoicic to face justice. At the time of the attack in Banjska, Radoicic was the vice-chairman of the Serbian List, the largest Kosovo Serb party supported by Belgrade.

The United States and the European Union, meanwhile, are urging Belgrade to prosecute those responsible for the attack in Banjska. /REL
