Placing explosives in Italian journalist's car/ Four people in custody,

Italian authorities have arrested four people suspected of planting explosives in the vehicle of Rai journalist and presenter Sigfrido Ranucci. Three of them have been sent to prison, while one has been placed under house arrest, by order of the Rome Court, following a request from the Antimafia Directorate (DDA).

The incident occurred on the evening of October 16, 2025, in front of Ranucci's apartment in Torvaianica. A large amount of explosives exploded near the gate of the journalist's villa, destroying two parked vehicles and damaging the surrounding wall.

According to investigations by the Carabinieri of Rome and Frascati, the group had carefully planned the attack. The evidence was based on the analysis of security cameras, telephone records and scientific expertise.

A camera on the Pontina state road recorded a Fiat 500X vehicle rented in Campania, which was allegedly used by the perpetrators to arrive at the scene and leave immediately after the explosion.

The car's movements matched the signals of mobile phones used by the suspects, both on the day of the attack and during a preliminary surveillance of the area, Italian media wrote.

According to the Antimafia Prosecutor's Office, the group did not act on its own initiative, but carried out an order given by still unidentified persons, in return for a payment and as part of a favor. Investigators suspect that the orderers had provided the perpetrators with funds, dedicated SIM cards, legal support and even an escape plan outside of Italy.

Meanwhile, the police have also conducted numerous checks on other individuals suspected of having provided the explosives or logistical support for the assassination.

Although the suspected perpetrators have been arrested, investigations continue. The priority of the Anti-Mafia Prosecutor's Office remains the identification of those who ordered the assassination and the elucidation of the motives that led to the attack on investigative journalist Sigfrido Ranucci. /CNA
