UN assessment: Nearly 7 million people may have been affected by devastating

The United Nations estimates that up to 6.76 million people may have been affected by the two powerful earthquakes that struck Venezuela three days ago.

According to the International Organization for Migration (IOM), the assessment was made based on available data on the population and the damage caused.

In the capital Caracas alone, it is estimated that up to two million residents may have been affected by the disaster.

IOM emphasizes that these figures show the enormous scale of the humanitarian crisis caused by the disaster and calls for a broader response from the international community.

Meanwhile, the official death toll has reached 920, while thousands of people are still missing. Many are believed to be under the rubble of collapsed buildings, especially in the coastal city of La Guaira and other affected areas.

The International Organization for Migration emphasizes that humanitarian needs are immediate and significant.

Among the main priorities are the provision of emergency shelter, the supply of drinking water and sanitation services, and the provision of health care for those affected. /CNA
