Heroic act of a mother in Venezuela / She loses her life to save her daughter

A touching story of sacrifice has emerged from the earthquake tragedy in Venezuela, where a young mother, identified by local media as Andrea, lost her life while trying to protect her young daughter during the collapse of the building they lived in.

Her husband, footballer Héctor Bello, has expressed his grief on social media, vowing to tell their daughter how her mother was brave and gave her life to save her. The couple's daughter survived and is currently in hospital receiving medical care.

The loss is part of a wider tragedy that has hit the country, where powerful earthquakes have left hundreds dead.
