New mosaic discovered in the Early Christian Basilica in Elbasan

Several archaeological excavations conducted during this season in the Scampis area in Elbasan have brought to light a new mosaic. 

It is a previously unknown mosaic, belonging to an earlier phase of the Paleochristian Basilica, located outside the walls of the ancient city.

Among the most important discoveries stands out a polychrome mosaic with the scene of the Eucharist, preserved in very good condition, as well as an inscription mentioning two donors, among them the deaconess Eurydice.

As announced by the institutions, an intervention is being prepared for the restoration, conservation and rehabilitation of the area, with the aim of protecting this precious asset and turning it into an accessible destination for citizens and visitors.
