Two employees of the "Jordan Misja" Penitentiary Institution lost their lives a few hours after each other.

According to the Directorate of Prisons, two employees Zog Muhametaj, Information Specialist with the rank of Commissioner, and Pëllumb Vrana, Camera Technician, with the rank of Chief Inspector, have lost their lives as a result of unexpected health conditions.

It is reported that Muhametaj, during the staff briefing for the change of duty at around 21:36, suffered a serious health condition and was transported to the Military Hospital. Despite the continuous efforts of the medical team, he did not survive.

A few hours later, around midnight, Vrana also suffered a serious health condition while on duty and despite the intervention of QSUT doctors, he could not survive.

A serious event has affected the large family of the Albanian penitentiary system. While performing their duties, two employees of the "Jordan Misja" Penitentiary Institution, Zog Muhametaj, Information Specialist with the rank of Commissioner, and Pëllumb Vrana, Camera Technician, with the rank of Chief Inspector, lost their lives as a result of unexpected health conditions.

At around 21:36 on June 29, 2026, Zog Muhametaj, during the staff briefing for the change of service, suffered a serious health condition. The colleagues present and the institution's medical personnel intervened immediately, providing him with first aid and urgently transporting him with the IEVP ambulance to the Military Hospital. Despite the unremitting efforts of the medical team, he did not survive.

A few hours later, at around 00:00 on June 30, 2026, Pëllumb Vrana, while performing his duties on the premises of the institution, also suffered a serious health condition. He was immediately given first aid by colleagues and the institution's nurse, and was then urgently transported to the QSUT. At around 01:00, despite the efforts of the doctors, he passed away.

Zog Muhametaj had been part of the penitentiary system since 2015, while since 2023 he had been serving at the "Jordan Misja" Penitentiary Institution.

With a military education and the rank of Commissioner, he distinguished himself for his professionalism, dedication, and responsibility on duty.

Pëllumb Vrana, in his role as Camera Technician, made a valuable contribution to the functioning and security of the institution, earning the respect and appreciation of his colleagues for his accuracy and dedication to his work.

The General Directorate of Prisons respectfully honors the memory of our two colleagues and expresses gratitude for their valuable contribution to fulfilling the mission of the Albanian penitentiary system.
