He was in the same cell with his son/ Detainee dies in Shkodra

A detainee in Shkodra prison passed away in the early hours of this morning.

According to official information, the detainee with the initials Ç. J., 62 years old, who was in the same cell with his son, the prisoner with the initials DJ, suffered a sudden deterioration in his health.

The 62-year-old was rushed to the Koplik hospital, but upon arrival at the hospital emergency room, it was determined that he had passed away. In the meantime, it is reported that investigations have begun to clarify the circumstances of the incident.

Announcement from the Directorate of Prisons:

In the early morning hours of 28.06.2026, a health emergency was registered at the Shkodra Prison. The detainee with the initials Ç. J., born on 10.11.1964, who was accommodated in the same room with his son, the prisoner with the initials DJ, suffered a sudden deterioration in his health, which necessitated the immediate intervention of medical personnel.

The institution's medical staff immediately provided first aid and, due to the worsening of his condition, his urgent transportation to Koplik Hospital was decided.

During transport, as well as upon arrival at the hospital emergency room, medical staff performed all cardiopulmonary resuscitation procedures, but, despite continued efforts, doctors pronounced him dead.

In accordance with legal procedures, the competent authorities were immediately notified and initiated procedural actions to fully document the case and clarify the circumstances of the incident.

The General Directorate of Prisons expresses its sincere condolences to the family of the deceased and guarantees full cooperation with the justice authorities for the full clarification of this case. /CNA
