Pope calls on world leaders to commit to Gaza deal

At the conclusion of Mass in St. Peter's Square, Pope Leo condemned both the "endless suffering" of the people of Gaza and the rise of anti-Semitic hatred worldwide, and expressed his hope that a peace agreement between Israel and Hamas will be finalized "as soon as possible."

Pope Leo XIV has called on political leaders to engage in ongoing peace negotiations between Israel and Hamas, which he said have recently shown significant steps forward.

The Pope expressed his hope that the agreement would be finalized as soon as possible and called on listeners to remain united in prayer for a just and lasting peace.

In his speech, delivered at the close of Mass in St. Peter's Square, the Pope said he continues to be saddened by the endless suffering of Palestinians in Gaza and greeted a group of pilgrims from Bethlehem.

He also expressed his concern about the rise of anti-Semitic hatred in the world, citing in particular Thursday's attack on a synagogue in Manchester, England.
