Snowstorm traps around 1,000 people on Tibetan side of Mount Everest

A severe snowstorm on Mount Everest has left nearly 1,000 people stranded on the eastern slope of the Tibetan side. Rescue efforts are underway amid blocked roads and heavy snowfall.

Hundreds of local villagers and rescue teams have been deployed to clear the snow and restore access to areas above 4,900 meters. According to foreign media reports, some tourists have already been evacuated from the mountain.

Meanwhile, across the border in Nepal, torrential rains have triggered landslides and flash floods, collapsing bridges, blocking roads and causing dozens of deaths since Friday.

Thirty-five deaths were reported in Ilam district along the Indian border, nine people are missing after being swept away by floodwaters and three others were killed by lightning strikes in other parts of the country./CNA
