Landslides and massive flooding in Nepal and India/ 63 people killed

Heavy rains have been hitting Nepal since Friday, causing flooding in some areas.

At least 43 people have died so far in the rain-related disasters and five others are missing. 37 of them were killed in landslides in the eastern Illam district, the worst-hit by the situation.

Landslides have blocked several highways and disrupted flights, stranding hundreds of travelers - many of them returning after celebrating the Hindu festival of Dashain.

Chief Minister Sushila Karki said government agencies were fully prepared for rescue and relief.

Meanwhile, across the border in India, at least 20 people died in the hilly tea-growing district of Darjeeling in the state of West Bengal after torrential rains overnight caused flash floods and landslides that destroyed homes and infrastructure./CNA
