President Trump attends the 250th anniversary of the US Navy in Norfolk

US President Donald Trump is attending an event at Naval Station Norfolk to celebrate the 250th anniversary of the United States Navy, where he will be joined by First Lady Melania Trump, Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth and Secretary of the Navy John Phelan.

Thousands of sailors and service members are expected to participate in the event, which is officially called US Navy 250: Titans of the Sea - A Salute to the Fleet, about a week before the Navy's official birthday on October 13.

"This extraordinary event will honor the Navy's unparalleled record of victory at sea, showcase its advanced fleet, and inspire the next generation of warfighters to bring America's strength to every ocean," said a statement from the event's organizers.

In a post on 'TruthSocial', the president said that this event will mark 250 years of naval dominance in the United States of America!

After the ceremony begins, the president and first lady will return to the White House. /CNA
