Rubio: Hamas agreed to framework for hostage release, should happen as soon as

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said Hamas has agreed to the president's framework for the release of the hostages.

Speaking on NBC's "Meet the Press," Rubio said that essentially, there is agreement, even though they are people who are not 100% trustworthy. 

"I'm not saying here that these are people that I trust 100% and that we shouldn't trust them either. But they have basically said that they agree with his proposal and the framework for the hostage release. That's a big achievement. They have also agreed, in principle, generally, to enter into this idea about what happens next, the Palestinian technocrats, et cetera. We'll know very soon whether Hamas is serious or not by how these technical talks go in terms of the logistics of a possible hostage release," Rubio said.

Rubio declared that work to determine the details is already underway.

He said the US expects the hostages to be released as soon as possible.

"The number one priority, the one that we think we can get something done very quickly, is the release of all the hostages in exchange for Israel returning to that yellow line, which is practically where they were in the middle of last month, or August. And that's what we're focused on," Rubio explained. /CNA
