Taxes: 100% pre-filling of VAT and DIVA declarations is achieved

Taxpayers have a simpler process for completing VAT and Individual Annual Income Tax Returns (DIVA) returns, as the Tax Administration has automated their pre-filling in the electronic system.

According to the Tax Administration, pre-filling has been carried out for 100% of the relevant declarations, fulfilling one of the objectives of the Reform Agenda one year ahead of the set deadline, which was December 2026.

From the taxpayers' perspective, the change aims to reduce the time needed to prepare tax returns, reduce human errors, and limit the need for manual entry of data that the administration already has.

166,495 DIVA declarations for 2026 were pre-filled in the system, about 30.2% more than the number of comparable declarations in April 2025. For VAT, 39,586 declarations were pre-filled, with an increase of 5.6% compared to April of the previous year.

Pre-filling does not mean that the return is automatically submitted without the taxpayer's intervention. Individuals and businesses must check the data entered into the system, complete missing information, and correct possible inaccuracies before final confirmation.

For businesses, especially those with high invoice volumes, automation is expected to reduce administrative costs and the workload of finance and accounting. However, the real benefit will depend on the accuracy of data pulled from tax systems and the smooth functioning of the electronic platform during declaration deadlines.

The Tax Administration claims that this is part of the reform of modernizing electronic services, with the aim of making the declaration completed in less time and with more transparency. For taxpayers, the main challenge remains careful verification of information, as the legal responsibility for the accuracy of the declaration continues to belong to the person or business submitting it./ Monitor
