Italian music in mourning/ Legend Peppino di Capri passes away

Italian music is in mourning. Peppino di Capri, one of the greatest performers and the symbol of Neapolitan melody in the world, has passed away at the age of 87. The artist, whose real name was Giuseppe Faiella, passed away at his villa "Castiglione" on the beloved island of Capri, after a long illness.

Born in 1939, Peppino di Capri spent eight decades on the music scene, becoming an ambassador of Italian culture. His career began very early, performing for Allied troops at the age of 4, and later becoming a pioneer of rock in Italy during the 1950s.

He is known for an endless repertoire, where hits such as "Champagne" (his emblematic song), "Luna caprese", "Let's Twist Again", "St. Tropez Twist" and "Roberta" stand out. With a unique style, he managed to combine Neapolitan folk music with international rhythms, winning the Sanremo Festival twice and leaving an indelible mark on the collective memory.

His loss has caused a great wave of grief in Italy. Senior political and artistic figures, including Culture Minister Alessandro Giuli, Senate President Ignazio La Russa, and personalities such as Aurelio De Laurentiis and Cristiano Malgioglio, have remembered him as a musical giant and a symbol of elegance and nobility.

The farewell ceremony will take place on Sunday, at 5:00 p.m., on the island of Capri.
