Spraying of corn crops begins in Maliq, about 100 hectares treated

The process of spraying corn crops in the Maliq Municipality has begun, following the detection of the presence of the pest Diabrotica virgifera, known as the corn rootworm. The intervention is being carried out by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, the National Veterinary and Plant Protection Authority, in cooperation with the Maliq Municipality, with the aim of curbing the spread of the pest and protecting agricultural production.

At this stage, about 100 hectares of corn-planted areas are being treated, using agricultural drones, a modern technology that enables fast, efficient and highly accurate spraying in affected areas.

The intervention process was closely followed by the Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Arjan Jaupllari, who was informed about the progress of the works and the measures taken to protect agricultural crops.

The authorities announce that the costs of this service are fully covered for the farmers, while field monitoring will continue in the coming days. In addition to the treatment of the affected areas, other preventive measures will be taken to limit the spread of the pest and guarantee a successful season for corn growers in the Maliqi area./ CNA
