The Opposition's "sock" for the dismissal of Erion Veliaj

The Opposition's "sock" for the dismissal of Erion Veliaj

The Albanian opposition seems to be still unclear and has apparently been undecided about Veliaj's dismissal, in relation to the (already) arrested former mayor of Tirana, Erion Veliaj. The opposition was the first to demand, even with protests, his dismissal in over 40 weeks.

Initially, opposition representatives stated that Veliaj should be dismissed immediately after the end of the 3-month term due to his absence.

In fact, Erion Veliaj was dismissed from office after 7 months!

Today's opposition statements, by the head of the Democratic Party Parliamentary Group, Gaz Bardhi, are as ridiculous as they are without legal basis.

How does the opposition justify today's statements in defense of Erion Veliaj, when the dismissal did not happen at the time rumored and expressed by the opposition, but happened 4 months later. Or was the opposition's request for dismissal simply a GazBardhist provocation, with the idea that the Constitutional Court would block the dismissal?

It is not clear which article the opposition, Democrats and others, were reading when they said that Veliaj should be dismissed after 3 months of absence from duty.

Veliaj was dismissed on September 25 by decision of the Council of Ministers after being proposed by the Municipal Council. His dismissal was made by decision in support of Article 100 of the Constitution and the letter 'c', Article 62, of Law No. 139/2015, 'On Local Self-Government', as amended.
Immediately afterwards, it seems that the opposition has mobilized to block Veliaj's dismissal.

The opposition, from one stance to another, clearly showed that it is divided on Veliaj's dismissal.

In its public stances and statements to the media, the opposition has been pushing the idea that Veliaj's dismissal should have been done long ago, perhaps right from the beginning, after his arrest. But when they declared that he should have been dismissed upon his arrest, which article of the Constitution that only Gaz Bardhi has in mind, was the opposition reading?!

Did the opposition really believe that the dismissal depended solely on the opposition members in the Municipal Council? Or did they believe that Prime Minister Edi Rama would block it?!

The opposition's public games on the Veliaj case surpass any kind of imagination, breaking even the rules of civic logic without reaching the logic of political action. These zigzags do not suit an opposition that would have us believe is demanding the dismissal of a mayor. It is more like a joke and mockery of the public, demanding that Veliaj be dismissed only when he himself wanted to.

The opposition should share their minds!

With these efforts, the opposition probably wanted to test whether Veliaj would be dismissed, and then remain in office after an appeal to the Constitutional Court.

The opposition is still not sharing its mind about the reason that prompted it to demand Veliaj's dismissal. Did it want him dismissed because he was absent from duty for 3 months or because it wanted Veliaj to remain in prison as Mayor?

This opposition, with these attitudes, is not just making us laugh. In fact, it is surpassing 'Orange' on its worst day of comedy shows. /CNA
