Without a large trial to demonstrate the safety or any benefits of taurine supplements, scientists do not recommend that people increase their intake through pills, energy drinks, or dietary changes.

Taurine is produced naturally in the body and is found in meat diets, but the healthiest diets are mostly plant-based.

Some energy drinks contain taurine, but scientists warn that they also contain other substances that may not be safe to consume at high levels.
