Phone call with President Putin/Erdogan wishes him a happy birthday and discusses regional issues

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin held a telephone conversation on Tuesday. Turkish media reported that bilateral relations, as well as regional and global issues, were discussed during the call.

"Turkey is working to secure a ceasefire in Gaza, to provide humanitarian aid to the region," Erdogan told Putin.

The Turkish president also wished Putin a happy birthday, which he celebrates today, October 7.

Erdogan said diplomatic initiatives must gain momentum to ensure that the war in Ukraine ends with a just and lasting peace, adding that Ankara will continue its efforts for peace.

Turkey has hosted three rounds of talks so far, on May 16, June 2 and July 23, aimed at reviving direct diplomacy between Moscow and Kiev after months of deadlock. /CNA
