The Chairman of the Freedom Party, Ilir Meta, has reacted to the approval in the Assembly of the Resolution on the Integration of the country into the European Union.

According to Meta, this is a moment for deep reflection, while other countries in the region are closer to this process.

Meta emphasizes that only through this approach will it be possible for the entire process to not remain just on paper, but to be realized.

"I welcome the Resolution adopted by consensus by the Parliament on the process of membership in the European Union, although it is very late, like the process of Albania's European integration itself.

The Freedom Party (LSI) was born as a necessity to unblock the signing of the Stabilization and Association Agreement, which was signed only after the democratic rotation in 2005.

At that time, Albania was far ahead of Montenegro and Serbia, while now the situation is completely opposite and Albania's backwardness in the integration process is extremely critical.

Therefore, today is the moment for deep reflection to restore Parliament to the pillar of the Republic, democracy, and accountability.

"I hope that this Resolution will serve this deep reflection that must be real and not remain only on paper, as Albania has not had and does not have any obstacle to joining the EU except for the complete lack of political will to date to guarantee respect for the Copenhagen Criteria, free elections, functional democracy, equality before the law and legal certainty, in respect of constitutional and European standards," Meta said./CNA
