Terror at EFKA and the Court of Appeals in Athens/Testimony of the 89-year-old:

An unusual event has occurred in Athens, where an 89-year-old man caused alarm and tension at the EFKA offices in Kerameikos and then at the Court of Appeals, now facing multiple criminal charges.

According to his statements to the police, the elderly man said he had left home with a suitcase and planned a taxi ride to Patras, and then changed his destination several times during his movements in the city.

“I wanted to go to court because I felt I was wronged. I didn’t want to kill anyone. If I wanted to, I would have, but I did it for the sake of money because I don’t think I’m getting what I deserve,” he declared, adding that his goal was to draw attention to his problems with EFKA.

He also claimed that he had considered traveling outside Greece, even as far as Strasbourg, to protest his case.

Serious criminal charges

The Athens Prosecutor's Office has filed criminal proceedings against him for several offenses, including: attempted serial murder, illegal possession and possession of weapons inside the courthouse, as well as other violations related to weapons, ammunition and disruption of the functioning of public services.

His lawyer, Vasilis Noulezas, has stated that his client did not intend to harm anyone, but that his actions were the result of long-standing desperation and frustration over an ongoing conflict with social security authorities.

According to the defense, the elderly man claims that he has been treated unfairly by EFKA and that his efforts for justice have not yielded results, pushing him towards extreme action./ CNA
