Talks with Iran/ A US delegation will leave for Pakistan

White House spokeswoman Caroline Leavitt said the United States will send a delegation to Pakistan this weekend, while Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi is also expected to travel to Islamabad.

Leavitt told reporters that President Donald Trump's special envoy, Steve Witkoff, and the president's son-in-law, Jared Kushner, will travel for a new round of negotiations with Tehran on April 25, noting that Washington has seen "some progress" from the Iranian side in recent days.

Araqchi is expected to arrive in Islamabad on April 24 for talks that will reportedly include consultations on proposals for resuming peace negotiations with the United States.

US and Iranian teams held peace talks in the Pakistani capital on April 11-12, but they ended without an agreement, while a second round expected to be held earlier this week did not materialize.

Spokeswoman Leavitt said that US Vice President JD Vance, who led the US team on April 11-12, will not lead the US delegation this time. She added that Vance will remain “on standby” in the US and “will be prepared to travel to Pakistan if we assess that to be necessary.”

"The President, Vice President and Secretary of State will be waiting here in the United States for updates."

According to an earlier CNN report, which cited anonymous US officials, Vance would be willing to travel to Islamabad if negotiations produced progress.

In a post on X, Araqchi said he would visit Pakistan, Oman and Russia to coordinate with regional partners on bilateral issues and discuss recent developments. He added that relations with neighboring countries remain a priority for Tehran.

The US-Israeli war against Iran began on February 28. A ceasefire has been in effect since April 8, which was scheduled to expire on April 22, but shortly before it expired, President Trump announced its extension. /REL
