Iran deposits first revenue from fees for ships passing through Hormuz

The Deputy Speaker of the Iranian Parliament, Hamidreza Hajibabayei, said that the first revenues from transit fees imposed on ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz have already been deposited in a Central Bank account.

According to the Tasnim news agency, Hajibabayei did not provide details on how the money was collected or who deposited it.

Before the ceasefire, Tehran had announced that it would limit free passage only to ships from so-called "friendly" countries, while discussions were underway to impose tariffs.

In late March, the Iranian embassy in India denied allegations that Tehran was charging up to $2 million in transit fees for ships./CNA
