Russian oil flows to Slovakia via Ukraine resumes

Slovak Economy Minister Denisa Sákova announced that the flow of Russian oil through the Druzhba pipeline has been restored to the country. The development is considered a significant one in an issue that has caused a major diplomatic debate in Europe.

The development is expected to unlock a major financial aid package for war-torn Ukraine. Slovakia's populist Prime Minister Robert Fico welcomed the development, calling it good news.

"Let's hope that a serious relationship has been established between Ukraine and the European Union. I thank everyone involved in resolving the issue, including the European Commission and Hungary," Fico said.

Hungary and Slovakia have been at odds with Ukraine since Russian oil supplies to the two countries via pipeline were halted in January after the Druzhba was destroyed. /CNA
