Whitaker's visit to Kosovo/ US Embassy: We are advancing common security
US Ambassador to NATO, Matthew Whitaker

The United States and Kosovo are continuing to advance “common security interests” and “strengthen regional stability.”

This is what the US Embassy in Pristina said in a post on social networks regarding the conclusion of the visit to Kosovo of the US Ambassador to NATO, Matthew Whitaker.

"His visit highlighted Kosovo's growing contributions to U.S. efforts to address global challenges and the importance of our cooperation through KFOR and through the Iowa National Guard Partnership Program. Together, the U.S. and Kosovo continue to advance shared security interests and strengthen regional stability ," the U.S. Embassy said.

The day before, Whitaker held meetings with the Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, with the Acting President, Albulena Haxhiu, and with the Commander of the NATO mission in Kosovo, KFOR, Major General Ozkan Ulutash.

Meanwhile, at the center of the meetings, according to announcements issued by the offices of Kurti, Haxhiu and KFOR, was security in Kosovo and the region.

Kosovo has joined the International Stabilization Force for Gaza and is expected to send troops to the Palestinian territory. This force is a mechanism created as part of the Peace Board initiative, proposed by US President Donald Trump, to achieve peace in the world.

Kosovo is among the first five states – along with Indonesia, Morocco, Kazakhstan and Albania – that have pledged to engage in this mission, with the aim of providing security and supervising the ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.

Likewise, the country considers the alliance with the US, a country that has contributed to Kosovo's independence and state-building, to be essential.

Kosovo, which is in the process of transforming its Security Force into an army, is also being equipped with American weapons, while hosting the largest American base in the Balkans, Bondsteel.

In addition to the support that the US has provided for the transformation of the KSF into an army, Washington contributes to the training and education of Kosovo soldiers. The KSF participates in various trainings with the US military and has a close partnership with the National Guard of the US state of Iowa. /REL
