'Wall Street Journal': US freezes dollar transfers to Iraq

The US administration has suspended dollar transfers to Iraqi authorities, as well as bilateral cooperation programs with the country's armed forces, to escalate the pressure it is exerting on Baghdad.

The goal is to force him to "dismantle" powerful paramilitary organizations close to Iran, the well-known American media outlet "Wall Street Journal" reported, citing government sources in both countries.

The newspaper also noted that a flight that would have transported nearly 500 million US banknotes, proceeds from Iraqi oil sales through accounts at the New York Federal Reserve, was recently canceled, by a decision of the Treasury Department to that effect.
