Diaspora votes at diplomatic missions in Kosovo's parliamentary elections

Thousands of Kosovo citizens living abroad are voting physically on Saturday at Kosovo's diplomatic missions for the June 7 snap parliamentary elections, the Central Election Commission (CEC) announced.

Over 27,000 eligible Kosovo citizens have registered to vote in 30 Kosovo diplomatic missions in 18 different countries around the world.

Voting is underway in all these representative offices, said CEC spokesperson Valmir Elezi on Saturday at a media conference in Pristina.

As of 1:00 p.m., 38.97 percent or 10,804 voters have voted, Elezi announced.

Polling stations at diplomatic and consular missions will be open from 07:00 to 19:00, local time in the respective countries.

This number of voters is just a fraction of a record of over 110,000 expatriate voters who registered to vote in the June 7 elections.

Voting is taking place in countries such as Germany, Switzerland, the USA, Canada, Italy, France, Great Britain, Belgium, Sweden, Austria, Norway, Slovenia, Denmark, Turkey, Croatia, the Netherlands, Hungary, the Czech Republic, etc.

Voting at diplomatic missions was enabled for the first time in the parliamentary elections of February 9, 2025, while previously only voting by mail had been possible.

Early parliamentary elections in Kosovo are being held after the Kosovo Assembly failed to elect a new president within the constitutional deadlines.

Political parties failed to reach a consensus on the election of the president after Vjosa Osmani's five-year term ended in early April.

These will be the third parliamentary elections in the last 18 months in Kosovo, following elections held in February and December 2025./rel
