Trump orders US Navy to shoot down any ship that lays mines in Strait of Hormuz

United States President Donald Trump has ordered the US Navy to shoot down any Iranian ship that lays mines in the Strait of Hormuz.

In a post on the "Social Truth" platform, Trump writes that the United States is working to clear the strait of mines.

"I have ordered the United States Navy to shoot down any ship, no matter how small (their naval vessels are ALL, 159 of them, at the bottom of the sea!), that is laying mines in the waters of the Strait of Hormuz. There is no hesitation. In addition, our mine sweepers are clearing the Strait now. I am hereby ordering that this activity to continue, but at a tripled rate ," Trump said.

Trump and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth have repeatedly said that Iran's naval forces, estimated to number about 150 ships, have been destroyed. /CNA
