The passing of academician Rexhep Qosja/Kurti: His work begins a new life today

Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti has reacted to the passing of academician Rexhep Qosja. In his post on social media, Kurti wrote that his work will live on for a long time and that today begins a life without its author.

Among other things, Rexhep Qosja was a linguist, writer, politician and scholar. Kurti emphasizes that the Albanian people do not have another contemporary academic who contributed so much to the language and the nation.

Full reaction:

Comfort comes to us from such a life.

Rexhep Qosja passed away today. His work will undoubtedly live much longer than his century. However, first of all, his work begins a new life today: life without the author.

Dozens of Rexhep Qosje's books are now gaining a new kind of reading and certainly new readers. From linguistic studies and literary criticism to historical diaries, from stories and plays to voluminous novels, they can now be re-experienced differently.

And from that rereading, ours and that of future generations, will depend the lessons and inspirations of the future. It is a great fortune for a nation to have such recorders of its times, of thought, and of situations.

Of course, no one can say that this or that writer or activist was our last Renaissance man. But of course, we must all say that no one has known and understood our Renaissance men more deeply, as well as valued and affirmed them more highly than academic Rexhep Qosja.

In academia he was a linguist and in language he was a historian, in public he was a writer and in writing he was a thinker, in society he was a politician and in politics a scholar. Between the legacy of the European Enlightenment and the biography of Gjergj Kastrioti Skanderbeg, as well as between romanticism and postmodernism, he circulated amazingly and endlessly inspired.

He wrote also because he had read a lot. He wrote a lot especially because he had something to say. He spent his life among books, not a few of which he himself authored, in the library of each of us.

The Albanian people have no other contemporary academic who contributed so much to our language and nation and at the same time was so much attacked by politics and his colleagues. He will be remembered as he was and remained - unyielding.

Two months before he turned nine decades old, he has been very valuable to all Albanians. He passed away, but his work lives on. / CNA
