OFFICIAL/ Chiellini joins Marotta at the Italian Federation

Giorgio Chiellini, one of the most important figures in Italian football in the last decade, has taken on a new institutional role. The former captain of Juventus and the Italian national team, currently Director of Football Strategy at the black and white club, has been elected a new member of the Council of the Italian Football Federation (FIGC). The decision was taken during the assembly of the Serie A League, where Chiellini received the support of the majority of representatives of the participating clubs.

His election followed the resignation of Francesco Calvo, former Juventus director, who left the position after moving to English club Aston Villa. Chiellini won with 12 votes in favor, ahead of two other candidates: Sassuolo's delegated administrator Giovanni Carnevali and Lecce president Saverio Sticchi Damiani, who received three and two votes respectively. Three ballots were invalid.

In fact, during the assembly, both Carnevali and Sticchi Damiani withdrew their candidacy, openly supporting Chiellini's name.

With this appointment, Giorgio Chiellini joins other Serie A representatives in the FIGC's governing structures: Giuseppe Marotta, president and delegated administrator of Inter, Stefano Campoccia, vice-president of Udinese, as well as Ezio Simonelli, president of the Serie A League. Together, they represent the interests of the elite clubs in the federative forums where the main policies of Italian football are discussed and approved.
