Ceferin confirms, historic change for national team qualifiers imminent

UEFA is considering changing the format of the European and World Cup qualifiers. The idea is to replace the current group system with a format similar to that of the Champions League, with a single table and opponents determined by an algorithm.

The news was published by "Sport Bild", while UEFA president Aleksander Ceferin confirmed that the possibility of making the process more interesting and less predictable is being analyzed.

According to the report, the proposal was raised by an English representative during a meeting in Malaga and could be implemented after Euro 2028, starting with the 2030 World Cup qualifiers.

A working group of the UEFA Committee on national team competitions is examining all options and will present final proposals to the Executive Committee on December 3. If approved, this change would include both European and World Cup qualifiers.
