Peleshi reacts to the Integration Resolution: Consensus between the majority and

The Speaker of the Albanian Parliament, Niko Peleshi, reacted a few minutes ago regarding the approval of the Integration Resolution during Thursday's session.

Through a post on social media, Peleshi seems to have wanted to clarify the rumors about a consensus between the majority and the opposition, regarding this development that is closely related to the country's European integration.

Peleshi states that the consensus between the left and the right is not a weakness, but a positive and very important event at this moment in the process that Albania is going through.

According to the Speaker of Parliament, consensus on such a major national issue, which goes beyond short-term political gains, does not weaken anyone; on the contrary, it strengthens both the majority and the opposition.

"The consensus between the majority and opposition forces on the Resolution on EU membership was a positive and very important event for the current situation of our country."

Albania has a unique characteristic among the aspiring countries, and even among the EU member states: all political parties, in majority or opposition, parliamentary or non-parliamentary, large or small, have EU membership as an absolute priority on their programs. So, there are no Eurosceptic political (or social) forces in Albania.

The consensual adoption of the resolution was an opportunity to support, not only with words, but also with deeds, unanimously, our common aspiration for membership.

On the other hand, this consensus must also be supported by media opinion, which, whether we like it or not, shapes broad public opinion.

In public discourse, there is a critical spirit towards political polarization, rightly so, but it is unfair to analyze "who lost" when a consensus is reached (unfortunately not so often).

Consensus on major national issues, which go beyond short-term political gains, does not weaken anyone; on the contrary, it strengthens both the majority and the opposition.

Above all, it strengthens our Albania," Peleshi writes. /CNA
