Study: People who use their left hand more may be more competitive

A new study suggests that people who are more left-handed may be more competitive than those who are right-handed. Left-handers make up about 10% of the world's population, while the majority are right-handed, and this percentage has remained roughly the same throughout history.

A theory from evolutionary psychology says that both groups have different advantages:

Right-handers have an advantage in collaborative activities, such as learning through imitation.

Left-handed people may have an advantage in competitive situations, such as fighting or some sports. This is because left-handed people are rarer and their movements are less predictable to right-handed opponents.

The study, published in the journal Scientific Reports, involved two experiments.

More than 1,100 people participated. They completed a test to determine hand preference. They also filled out questionnaires about personality, competitiveness, anxiety, and depression.
