Tickets continue to sell for Dune: Part Two, which is approaching the $700 million mark worldwide.
Director Dennis Villeneuve's sci-fi epic has earned $276 million in North America and $419 million worldwide, bringing its total to $695.8 million eight weeks into its release.
That's impressive, as only five films in 2023, eight in 2022 and five in 2021 managed to cross the $700 million mark. It is worth noting that Denis Villeneuve's first film, "Dune", released in 2021, earned 431 million dollars worldwide.
While the first film focused on creating the world in which the story unfolds, in Dune: Part 2, viewers witness the aftermath of the events that took place.
In the film, Timothée Chalamet's Paul Atreides plays the chosen one and fights to get revenge on those who destroyed his family.
Dune 2 is currently the highest-grossing film of 2024, both domestically and globally. Besides the US and Canada, the biggest markets are the UK ($48.8 million), China ($48.5 million), France ($42.6 million), Germany ($39.7 million) and Australia ($22.5 million). CNA
