Space Command relocation/ Trump: We had a lot of competition for this and

President Donald Trump announced on Tuesday that the U.S. Space Command will be located in Huntsville, Alabama, reversing a decision by the Biden administration to keep it at its temporary headquarters in Colorado.

Trump's decision ends a four-year debate between the two states and opposing administrations over where to house the U.S. Space Command, a bitter battle because the headquarters would be a significant boon to the local economy.

Alabama and Colorado have long fought to get Space Command, with elected officials from both states claiming their state is the best location.

"The headquarters of the U.S. Space Command will be moving to a beautiful place called Huntsville, Alabama, which will forever be known from this moment forward as Rocket City. We had a lot of competition for this and Alabama won ," Trump said, flanked by Republican members of Alabama's congressional delegation, from the Oval Office on Tuesday.

 

Trump said Huntsville won the race for the Space Command headquarters, in part, because "they fought harder for it than anyone else."

Space Command's functions include performing operations such as enabling satellite navigation and communications with troops, as well as providing missile launch warnings.

Huntsville, Alabama, nicknamed Rocket City, has long been home to the Army's Redstone Arsenal and NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center. The Army's Space and Missile Defense Command is also located in Huntsville, which earned the nickname for its role in building the first rockets for the U.S. space program./ CNA, translated by AP
