US attacks ship suspected of carrying drugs/ Three people die

The US military has announced that it has carried out another attack on a ship accused of transporting drugs in the Caribbean Sea, killing three people, as the Trump administration continues efforts to crack down on drug smuggling in the United States.

The Trump administration's campaign to blow up suspected drug trafficking ships in Latin American waters has continued since early September, with the death toll reaching 181.

Attacks have increased again over the past week, despite the war in Iran, which has been the focal point of the US military since it erupted on February 28.

The repeated attacks signal that the administration is not prepared to back down from the fight against what it calls "narcoterrorism" in the Western Hemisphere.

In the latest attack that occurred a day earlier, US Southern Command reiterated previous statements saying it had targeted suspected drug traffickers along known smuggling routes.

US President Donald Trump has previously said his country is in an "armed conflict" with cartels in Latin America and has described the attacks as a necessary escalation to stop the flow of drugs into the United States and the fatal overdoses that are taking American lives. /CNA
