Suspicions of war crimes/ Serbia arrests a person at the border with Kosovo

Serbia's Ministry of Internal Affairs said it has arrested a person at the Mutivoda border crossing - which connects Kosovo with Serbia - on suspicion of war crimes.

"There are well-founded suspicions that on 14.06.1999, in the Sofali area, Pristina, in complicity with several members of the KLA, with cold weapons and firearms, in a cruel and insidious manner, he took the lives of civilians of Serbian nationality, the married couple Vladimir and Persa Stanisavljevic ," the Serbian Ministry of Interior said in a statement.

OS, born in 1953, has been sentenced to 30 days in pre-trial detention by the High Court in Belgrade, Serbian authorities said.

The Serbian MUP announcement did not state exactly whether the suspect was part of the Kosovo Liberation Army.

Radio Free Europe has contacted the Kosovo Ministry of Affairs and Diaspora to find out if it has any information about this case and is awaiting a response.

In recent years, Serbia has repeatedly arrested Kosovo citizens on charges of war crimes in Kosovo in 1998-99.

Serbia during the 1990s characterized the KLA as a terrorist organization, while for Kosovo, the KLA is the organization that protected the local population from the repression of the Yugoslav armed forces. /REL
