Defense statements/ Thaçi's lawyer to the court: Start from the fact

Today at the Hague Tribunal, the defense lawyers of the former KLA leaders are delivering their closing arguments.

In his speech, Hashim Thaçi's defense attorney, Luka Misetic, addressed the judges, telling them that they should first start with the fact that Thaçi is innocent, then assess whether the evidence is convincing.

The lawyer further focused on the testimonies given in court, where he said that international witnesses said that Thaçi is not involved in war crimes.

The lawyer stated that for this testimony, the witnesses had received information from intelligence services or diplomatic sources.

 

“ When you begin your deliberations, you will start from the position that Hashim Thaçi is innocent and then you will assess whether the evidence presented by the Specialist Prosecutor's Office has convinced you, beyond a reasonable doubt, that Hashim Thaçi is guilty.

"You have heard from international witnesses who have said that Hashim Thaçi was not suspected of war crimes, while these events were happening and developing. The international witnesses told you that they were informed about these events through diplomatic sources, intelligence services and others, as well as through their personal experiences, including their experiences with Hashim Thaçi ," the lawyer said.
