WHO Meteorological Organization: 80% chance that El Niño will "touch" the world this summer

The UN's World Meteorological Organization now warns that there is an 80% chance that El Niño will develop this summer.

Extreme weather is increasingly influencing travel experiences and decisions, from intense heat changing summer vacation habits and destinations to the dangers of wildfires driving interest in travel insurance.

For travelers, this means greater concern about storm activity, wetter conditions in some regions, and more volatile summer weather expectations in general.

Driven by unusually warm ocean waters in the tropical Pacific, El Niño is expected to leave almost nowhere untouched, with above-average temperatures predicted across the globe for June through August.

A recent survey of 600 U.S. leisure travelers by Sensible Weather found that bad weather now ranks as the second-biggest concern when booking, behind only cost. More than half (55%) said they have delayed a trip due to weather uncertainty./CNA
