The education system in Albania is facing a challenging reality, where the decline in the number of young people is accompanied by a large discrepancy between what students study and what the economy needs. Statistics show that the number of students in pre-university education is in continuous contraction, falling by 1.7% for the 2025-2026 school year.

Moreover, most students continue to choose high schools instead of vocational schools, thus avoiding profiles that offer a market-ready trade.

Education in crisis/ A declining generation and diplomas that remain in the

The situation becomes even more problematic in higher education, where a large gap appears to be emerging between students' desires and the reality of employment. A very high number of students continue to focus on business, administration, and law.

The problem is that while everyone wants to become "managers", our market is in urgent need of engineers, programmers, electricians, qualified mechanics, plumbers, etc.

Because of this misdirection, we have a paradox: businesses cannot find the technical staff they need to function every day, while graduates in administrative fields have a very difficult time finding a job in their profession.

If this pattern does not change, the gap between the diploma obtained and the workplace will deepen even further, leaving the economy with a shortage of staff and young people with great uncertainty about their future./CNA
