Average working week in the EU around 36 hours in 2025

In 2025, weekly working hours of full-time and part-time employees in European Union countries aged 20-64 were on average 35.9 hours, up from 36.9 hours in 2015.

Based on data published by Eurostat, referring to EU countries, the longest working weeks were recorded in Greece with 39.6 hours, Bulgaria and Poland with 38.7 hours each, and Lithuania with 38.4 hours.

On the other hand, the Netherlands had the shortest workweek with 31.9 hours, followed by Denmark and Germany with 33.9 hours each and Austria with 34 hours.

The occupations with the longest working week in the EU were skilled workers in agriculture, forestry and fishing with 42 hours each, managers with 40.6 hours and armed forces occupations with 39.4) hours.

While the professions with the longest work weeks were recorded as office workers with 34 hours and service and sales workers with 34.5 hours. /CNA
