The big lie of social networks / It is leading young girls towards depression

In an interview with CNA TV, psychologist Bona Miekley focused on a disturbing phenomenon that is taking over digital platforms, directly affecting the mental health of young people. The meticulously curated images of celebrities on Instagram and TikTok are creating unrealistic standards of beauty and success, hiding a bitter truth from the public eye. In reality, behind the virtual appearance of these figures lies an entire industry.

Hairdressers, makeup artists, stylists, photographers, and plastic surgeons work tirelessly to create an illusion of grandeur. Without this massive support machine, these so-called VIPs are completely ordinary people. However, this facade is causing irreparable damage to young girls. Teenagers aged 18, 19, and 20, constantly confronted with these images, fall prey to destructive comparisons. They develop deep insecurities, feeling like failures or not beautiful enough.

This process of comparison robs them of joy and distorts their personal identity. In a desperate search for a click or social approval, many young women try to copy the lives of celebrities. When they are faced with the impossibility of achieving this false standard, the consequences are severe.

This constant pressure is alarmingly increasing cases of depression, anxiety, and psychological crises among young people, a situation that requires immediate intervention to help the new generation.

" I've also said this thing that it's not just about Instagram or TikTok filters, it's also about a lot, for example, we know a lot of famous people, VIPs, who have a company behind them. So, there's someone who combs their hair, someone who does these other botoxes, others who do their nails, someone who gives them a dress, or someone who takes a beautiful picture, a photographer... So, they have a, they have a very big company behind them and they make them, they make these beautiful girls, these extraordinary people. When in reality they are normal people like everyone else. And what happens to little girls, 18, 19, 20? They look at these, these people who are on Instagram and think to themselves 'Oh, I'm not like these. I'm not as accomplished as this person, I'm not beautiful, I'm not accomplished.' And what happens? This comparison steals joy, steals identity if, if these teenagers don't, don't get help. So what happens? It happens that to achieve a click, to achieve a confirmation, an approval, they try to become like, like these others. And when they don't achieve it, they start and go into depression, they have anxiety, they have a lot of problems , "said the psychologist./CNA
