June 1/ A childhood in the concrete "jungle"

2026-06-01 08:55:00, Sociale CNA

Today, under the false light of official celebrations, Albania tries to cover with colors a reality that is becoming increasingly bitter for the younger generation. Thousands of Albanian children continue to collide with a reality where their dreams are limited by concrete walls, poverty and a total lack of security.

The transformation of our cities into cement "prisons" has annihilated a child's most basic right, free play. In the absence of parks and green spaces, the street has become the only playground, a choice that often turns fatal.

The dark chronicles of recent weeks are the most painful evidence of this failure, where children, having no place to use their energy, have faced accidents, which have left behind lost lives and families destroyed by institutional indifference.

Beyond the physical dangers, there is also a challenge for mental health well-being. In schools where bullying has found free ground, children are growing up unprotected and isolated in their virtual world. This loneliness, imposed by a society that prioritizes towers over small citizens, is raising an emotionally vulnerable generation.

Today, "June 1st," should be a day of reflection and reckoning. As long as children continue to play in the middle of dangerous streets and feel abandoned by the systems that should protect them, any celebration remains a hypocrisy, an insult to childhood that is being killed day by day.
