Protecting children in the digital age/ Commissioner's Office publishes

On June 1, the Office of the Commissioner for the Right to Information and Personal Data Protection took a step towards the safety of minors, by publishing the guide “On the Protection of Personal Data of Minors”. At a time when technology has become an inseparable part of children’s daily lives, this document comes as a response to the need for a higher culture of online safety.

The guide, drafted in implementation of Law No. 124/2024, serves as a practical tool that explains in a simple way the fundamental rights of children as data subjects, including the right to access, rectify, delete and be forgotten. Through age-appropriate language, the document offers concrete advice on creating strong passwords, managing privacy on social networks and being careful when sharing photos or personal information.

An important part of the material is also the treatment of contemporary risks, such as cyberbullying, online fraud and attempts to profile minors for marketing purposes. In addition to instructions on how to react in the event of a privacy violation, the document highlights the essential role of parents and teachers in monitoring and supporting children to create the safest possible environment.
