FT: Zelensky plans to hold presidential elections in spring

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is planning to hold presidential elections in the spring, attaching a referendum on a peace agreement with Russia, according to a report by the Financial Times.

According to international media, the plan is intended to be announced on February 24, while the US government is exerting pressure to hold these elections and the referendum by May 15, so that Ukraine does not lose security guarantees from the US.

President Zelensky intends to use this vote combination as a strategic step to involve the Ukrainian people in final decision-making on any peace agreement with Russia, which is part of ongoing international talks to bring an end to the conflict.

The report also mentions that the talks have also included discussions on security assurances and joint response plans in case the peace agreement is threatened, reflecting the complexity of Ukraine's political and military situation.
