"I stood up and gave a speech"/ Rama talks about the rape in '97

Prime Minister Edi Rama, in a conversation with publisher Nikoll Lesi, spoke about the rape he suffered in 1997, while he was working as a journalist.

Rama said that after the attackers left, he got up from the ground and addressed the people who were watching him from the windows of the buildings, telling them that one day they would go to their homes too.

The Prime Minister said that after examinations by doctors, the violence against him has been classified as attempted murder.

 

"Did they think they left me dead? Lying down, I see all the windows, with people in the windows. That's when I got the strength and stood up, shouting at them: stay in the windows or else they'll come to your houses too. I gave speeches. I went out on the street to get a car and they wouldn't stop the cars. Then two guys took me. I went and took a picture and those two guys left me outside the hospital. The doctor called it attempted murder. And when the doctor saw me in France, he told me that my height and sports saved me ," Rama said.
