Hantavirus outbreak/PHI: There is no risk of pandemic

The Institute of Public Health held a press conference today regarding the risk of hantavirus. IPH official Artan Simaku stated that there is no risk of a pandemic because the virus is not transmitted from person to person.

Simaku also announced that Albania has constant contact with world health organizations but also with countries in the region, to be updated on the signs and symptoms of hantavirus.

"Information is being carried out with all doctors, to be more up-to-date with the signs and symptoms of hantavirus, and the timely detection of any suspected case and the isolation of any suspected case if there is one, and the monitoring of contacts. Albania has ongoing contacts with world health organizations but also with countries in the region, especially with Greece, which had one case of the outbreak."

"We say that there is no room for panic, the health service throughout the country is ready to identify any possible case as soon as possible. IHP has all the capacities to perform the diagnosis and provide the result very quickly. There is no chance of a pandemic at all because it is not transmitted from person to person, the risk of localized outbreaks is very low ," said the IHP official. /CNA
