2.3 million euro intervention at the Transbalkanika in Vlora to avoid flooding

The Municipality of Vlora intends to intervene in the white water sewage network on the Trans-Balkan road to avoid floods, which, according to the technical report, have become frequent whenever the weather deteriorates.

Specifically, a procurement procedure that has as its object "KUB Vlorë (White Water Sewers) - Reconstruction, resizing and rehabilitation of the main collectors along the Trans-Balkan road, according to lots: from Skela Street to Hasan Kushta Street (Albano and Romina) and Odise Grillo Street", foresees this intervention. Its limit fund is 230 million lek, or about 2.3 million euros.

“Based on the assessments and reassessments of the existing state of the KUB, as well as the flooding conditions that are becoming common in the area subject to this project, we reached the following conclusions: The Vlora KUB system should be studied as a whole and only specific parts of it cannot be rehabilitated for the following reasons; the capacities of the KUB system lines were calculated according to the existing norms and standards of 1976-1977, i.e. before the issuance of the official Standards of 1978; major changes have occurred in the city of Vlora, both in urbanization and in the land use of the watershed, and consequently the surface runoff coefficients have changed,” the report highlights.

The document highlights that the current state of the KUB is almost completely depreciated, with partial and complete blockages from alluvial deposits and city waste. Meanwhile, the flow transport capacities are reduced due to the blockage of some sections.

Also, the KUB system in some nodes turns out to be disconnected, causing some of the lines, due to lack of discharge in the downstream pipelines, to come to the surface during the rainy season and flood the streets and squares.

The Municipality estimates that from the entire KUB system of Vlora, for the central part of the city that discharges into the field canal towards Hidrovor, the final quota of the field canal must be respected. Therefore, the entire new KUB system for the central area of ??Vlora must discharge at one point and at a fixed absolute quota, which is -2.93 m (the final quota of the field canal).

"In view of the above assessments, a hydraulic model has been built in the StormCad premises, dimensioning the KUB network and its design. Replacement of the DN 400 mm steel pipe from Cipajve Street to Rotondo e Aviacioni, with length L=2050 ml.

"The design task of this facility will be completed by specifying the sections of the beginning and end of the intervention, specifying the type of pipeline in these sections and the method of connecting the new part to the existing one," the document underlines./ Monitor.al
