The leader of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha, during a session in the Parliament, accused the government of policies towards farmers and the agricultural sector.

Berisha stated that the Albanian government is the only one in Europe that, according to him, has removed the oil subsidy for farmers at a time when fuel prices are high.

He described this decision as "irresponsible" and "cynical", claiming that it is directly harming agriculture.

Berisha added that one of the reasons for residents leaving rural areas is the high cost of oil.

He also accused the government of misusing IPARD funds, saying that the funds were stolen and that farmers were left without support.

In his speech, Berisha also used strong political tones towards the majority, declaring that for the government, farmers do not exist.

"How can you speak when you are the only government in Europe that, at the peak of oil and gas prices, removes the oil subsidy from farmers. Is there any greater cynicism than this? Is there any more irresponsible act? It is a policy not only of bankrupting farmers but also of depopulation. One of the reasons for leaving is oil, because they cannot make ends meet. You steal while they take the dirt roads.

"You removed the oil subsidy. You stole the IPARD funds. You are Ballukër. You have been Ballukized. For you, farmers do not exist," Berisha said./ CNA
